The crowd at Chole Black's - Hey, Kool Aide! (You have to read the Journal to get that.) |
I always seem to wind up with extra pictures when I do a Surgeon's Journals and they always seem to wind up on the last page. While we're here on the last page, I'd like to thank everyone who allowed me to pillage their photos. Web pages usually aren't very interesting without photos in them and I am not the world's most reliable photographer. Add to this the fact that I almost always start off an event intending not to do another Surgeon's Journal (because they literally take weeks to get together) and I usually don't have near enough photos to put this together. So here's to everyone who takes the pictures I fail to.

Thanks also to Michael for inviting me and to Nathan for giving me so much good advice about what to bring and how to get there. Enjoy the last batch of photos!

Above - Left: the loners. These folks got a primo spot, far away from main site. It was wonderful until the whole site got swallowed up by a giant shark (which lost one of its teeth in the fracas.) Middle: You gotta protect your oranges. You never know when a raccoon might sneak up and take one. (Of course, anyone who's ever tangled with raccoons like your author will immediately recognize that this cage is hardly a match for them.) Above right: a nice close up of Billy Bones. He was actually a fully-jointed skeleton. (What is with that wig, though?)

When this caisson goes rolling along... (I love jokes like this. So much that it's amazing you're still reading.) |

Left: "Sheriff of Nottingham, in gratitude for you
faithful service, I shall knight thee. In the name of My Most Royal
Majesty, I knight thee. Arise, Sir Loin of Beef. Arise, Earl of Cloves.
Arise, Duke of Brittingham. Arise, Baron of Munchausen. Arise, Essence
of Myrrh...Milk of Magnesia...Quarter of Ten. (Sotto voce) Got lots of
stamina!"
(I never get tired of those jokes either...and yet you're still here reading!)
Right: Michael J. Stevens had lots of info about other surgeons - it turned out he is pals with a guy who does a French surgeon impression. Mr. Stevens explained that the finger shortening started out as a treatment by his French pal - who was treating a hangnail!

Above: left - And now for a lesson on the differences between boys and girls. (I think this sums it up rather nicely.) Middle - "Now, lessee...The pestle with t... the pellet with the poison's in the vessel with the pestle, the palace from the chalice has the brew that is blue. Eh, no... The pellet with the poison's in the vessel with the pestle..." Right - A ghost! Cue the spooky X-Files music! Aieeeeeee!

Yet another layer of experience! |
September, 2011, Although the Surgeon's Journal has been upgraded to a new page format that eliminates the old titles, I didn't want to completely lose the original title graphic which I spent so much time creating. I made that outline of the girl with the parasol by filling in a photo using MS Paint. Even though it doesn't look like much, it took forever to do. So here it is for your viewing pleasure.
