Someone came up with the idea of having an event at the Schooner
Wharf Bar in Key West called "The Buxom Wench and Bad Ass Pirate
Contest." I suppose if you're going to focus on the women's bosom,
you have to focus on some part of man's anatomy,
but...guys...seriously...rename this contest.
Captain Spike of the Bone Island Buccaneers was the master of ceremonies. As you can see at right, he found this job grueling. A crew of us arrived a bit late for the contest. The bar was crowded and noisy and you unfortunately couldn't hear Spike very well where we were standing. So I left after one drunk with the estimable Patrick Hand and Delana to walk back to Fort Taylor. However, the event continued quite well without me. No doubt two people won the contest in the process of all these doings, but I haven't the faintest idea who they were.
Fortunately, Papa Ratsey Callahan was on hand to capture the event photographically so all you folks can enjoy seeing what happened. You won't be able to understand it, because I don't know enough to comment intelligently, but that has never stopped me from commenting before.

Above are are some of the contestants. I think. First we have someone I do not know either inciting the crowd or really getting into his solo from Pagliacci. Next is Mad Dog doing his best Jack Sparrow. And finally we have proof that when all is said and done, it really just comes down to sex and money. Below are presumably more contestants. First are three girls, none of whom I know. To the right are Liberte Sparrow and Spike. I presume the tambourine adds to her buxom appeal?

Above are a series of shots of Animal of the Pirates of the Coast, who clearly gets into his role. First shipmate Diosa tries to keep him on his chain leash. He apparently escaped, which made Spike feel threatened. Finally, he appears to have gone into berserker mode. I think he would have been most entertaining to watch.
