Extra Page: Crudbeard, Blood Thirsty Barbara and Oreo
(Photo: Mission)
As you can clearly see, when looking at his camp at right, Crudbeard of the
Pirates of the Dark Rose has very inadequate security
measures in place around his tent in the fort. Since he is so desperately in need of some form of
protection, he brings extra security with him in the form of Oreo.
I am told he is an African Raven. Among other things, African Ravens have been associated with evil - due to their cry, uncleanness, wisdom/ power and navigation (from Norse mythology.) They are known to stash food or items of interest making them some of the earliest pirates. Because his tent looks so inviting, Crudbeard is kind enough to warn the unwary away with a sign that reads, "Beware Bad Bird -> Bites, Swears & Steals." So don't say you weren't warned.

Above are a sequence of photos with Blood Thirsty Barbara trying to heard an apparently stubborn Oreo in a direction Oreo is not all that interesting in going. The position of Barbara and Oreo in the picture above left reminded me of an early Chuck Jones cartoon Caveman Inki where Inki is following a Mynah bird. This is probably the main reason I had to create this page. (Thanks Barbara!) Personally, I always remember that cartoon because of the music, but the image is apparently stuck somewhere in my neurons as well.
