Santa Maria Pirate Weekend, May 2008 - Columbus, OH
Epilogue - Post Event - Entailing what happened after the event (nothing), the gratuitous collection of picture that didn't fit anywhere else and some other odds and ends found at the bottom of the web barrel.

Kate/Jessica discusses life with Bucky. To me, Bucky looks
like he's shocked at what she's just said to him. However,
Kate assures me that he's actually picking his nose.
(Such as it is.)

Michael works on one of his many
projects by candlelight during the
Hurricane Ike power-outage.
(That's dedication!)
I owe sincere thanks to Michael and Kate for inviting me to this event,
not to mention making me another set of clothes to play in. Thanks also to
Perkeo for letting me use his photographs. I never think of taking photos
at the time I'm experiencing an event. This means that when I set out
writing a journal, I think of at least 300 shots I wish I had to
illustrate the points I want to make.
I should also mention that while I wasn't a complete photo slacker this time, I used Kate's camera for any photo you see with my name on it. (I did bring a camera, however I wisely chose to leave it in the car so as to avoid the possibility of wrecking by using it to take pictures.) Since Michael and Kate live in Columbus, they have received several whiny emails from me looking for them to run off and take photos of random things for me. I heartily appreciate their efforts.
It was great fun to be stationed on a ship the river in downtown Columbus. Mark Gist is one of the best laissez-faire pirate captains I've come across and he made the event relaxed and very enjoyable. He is a genuine storehouse of knowledge and was even able to add some color to my surgeon's presentation at one point. He noted that didn't come down to the boat when it was open quite as much as he used to because he tended to make some of the staff who give tours nervous - he wrote the script they use. As I mentioned previously, he was instrumental in getting the Santa Maria project going and has worked thousands of hours on it. Unfortunately, getting the Santa Maria financed for was only half the battle. At present, the ship is in danger of losing funding for upkeep and may have to be removed from the river.

Below: Photos of the ship details. Below left: A nice shot of the Michael on the rear deck, looking down at Kreiger (in front of him) and Mark and his wife Jennie wayyy up front on the main deck. At right: The scary main top. (See how small the rope ladder gets near the top?)

October, 2011: In the upgrading of the Surgeon's Journal to a new page format, I eliminated the old titles, I didn't want to completely lose those title graphics because I spent more time than I like to think about creating them. So below is the original title graphic. It's quite large. Too large, really. Plus I had not yet learned how to place text on graphics properly. (Ah, well. Hindsight is 20/20.)
