Pirate Fest, June 2011 - Put-in-Bay, OH

This needs no explanation Epilogue. Of the dregs of the photos; praise for the photographers; things that didn't fit in the other, overlong chapters and similar random musings all cobbled together for your enjoyment.
When I reach the end of a Journal, I always seem to have some photos left over that I wanted to use but the chapter I planned to put them in was already running too long too long. Thus we have the Epilogue page. It's also to muse fondly and/or forlornly about the event finishing. Put-in-Bay is well on track to becoming my favorite event because it nicely balances the serious, period re-enactment stuff that allows me to show off my surgical equipment and learnin' with the wacky, pop-pirate, rum-drinking image that towns like Put-in-Bay so well engender. This line is nice and blurry at Pirate Fest and that's the way I tend to like it.
First I have to thank the photographers. This Journal wouldn't be the same without pictures, mainly because by the time I get around to finishing the last few chapters I have just about completely forgotten what happened. Without photos to prompt (and occasionally surprise) me, these Journals would probably all end after chapter two or three. So thanks much to everyone who allowed me to plunder their photos. You can see their albums by clicking on the pictures below - although most of them are now on Facebook, so if you're not their friend, you may not be able to see the album. Note: We have a new addition to the photographers: Sam. He finally figured out how to post photos to the internet! (Yay, Sam!)

Before I begin the photo review, I have to make up for something I missed something in a previous chapter. I wrote about the Faire Wynds Entertainers in Chapter 5 and put the best photos I could find into that segment. While I was searching for some photos for this page, I noticed that Margarita had taken some really prime shots of Eric and Susan performing. It seemed a crime not to include these photos, even if I had to eat a little crow and admit that I missed them. (Either that or Margarita didn't post them right away. Since that explanation doesn't require that I made a mistake, it must be the correct one.)

Now for a Rogues Gallery! of photos. The Thatchers and their friend Carol didn't get near enough face time in the Journal, which must be remedied in our Rogues Gallery! section. Connie had spent most of her spare time (if she had any with all those kids) before the event working on a set of leather stays for this event, which you can see below left. Hard work must be showcased. ... For some reason, the Thatchers put a sign on Carol which I hope you can read after I shrunk it to fit in here (if not, it says, "For Sale!! Easy but NOT cheap!" I wonder if Carol knew? ... Although I appear to have taken that photo of Silas below right, I have no flipping clue what he's doing. The white and pink things sure look like petticoats to me, though!

Mark and Jennie Gist are two of the people who I believe make our pirate events great. Along with Michael and Jessica Bagley, they take care of all sorts of details you may not think about (well, details I usually don't think about) and are instrumental in making a lot of the events happen. So I thought they needed a spot in the Rogues Gallery! Plus I liked several photos of them I found, so I wanted to post them. Below left is Mark watching the costume contest. My friend Tirzah said, "He kind of looks like a time traveler, enjoying his time in the present." I think Mark would like that. Jennie had a couple of very neat bead necklaces which she wore at Put-in-Bay, one of which you'll notice below right. She gets them custom made by someone, although I forgot who it was. (If I found out, I promise to put it in here.)

What could Kate be explaining to Lisa here?
While one usually associates the concept of a 'rogue' with men, the Rogue's Gallery! makes no such sexist distinctions. (As the previous entries will attest.) Plus I have a bunch of nice photos of the Pirate Women of Put-in-Bay that I wanted to stuff in the Journal somewhere and the Rogues Gallery! seems like as good a place as any.
Lisa and Mary Diamond made the trip to Put-in-Bay all the way from Wisconsin (Lisa) and Chicago (Mary), stopping along the way to spend the night at the Forsaken crew's founder, M.A. d'Dogge. I didn't get any of the details of this stay. I could make up some, but I am gallant. Sort of.
I had mentioned previously that Kate Bagley went over to play with the Gillmor cannons several times. After writing and publishing that bit of trivia, I found a photo in her album of her with Judy Yokom of Gillmor Ordnance, so I am posting it below left for your perusal. There are several others of her actually firing the cannon in her album, although I notice she looks surprisingly concerned about the noise. (I never noticed such concern in the photos of the All Girl's Cannon Crew photos! Of course, they weren't double-packing the charges either.)

Of course no Rogues Gallery! for the Put-in-Bay Pirate Fest would be complete without including the erstwhile crew of the imaginary Blitzen. They all gathered for a group shot which deserves a place here, featuring two particularly roguish rouges.

This brings us to the random photos. We start out with some very scary ones and then proceed to the usual stuff for which I have come up with stup- uh... humorous comments. So enjoy those - once we get past the scary ones!

Is that Ty in that photo or what? That about sums it up! I hope you got the impression that I had a really good time at this event, because I did. (This is despite the expression in the photo at left, which I had to put in here because of that line below it . (Which I sort of stole from Trish.)
If it all sounded like too much fun and you want to know more, Michael gave me the flyer for next year's Pyrate Fest, which you can see at right (I scanned it in for your convenience.) I notice that I am not mentioned there like I was on the signs, but I'll try and over-look this minor oversight by the event planners.
August 2011. Despite having only recently finished this Surgeon's Journal, it occurred to me that the world would be so much better if I punished myself by trying to upgrade the Look and Feel of my website. This resulted in standardizing the title graphics, which meant I lost all the individual ones I had created for each of the 15 Journals produced to date. So I decided to tack them onto the end of the individual Journals. Like this one! Created by Mission
