Eastport Pirate Festival, 2013 - Eastport, ME
Kid with Ears on his Hat Like Lob's
Epilogue: Of the quick exit of the surgeon; Lob's post-event fate; Recognition of the photographers who contributed their photos to the Journal; the remaini- "Wait just a hold it. What that mean?" What does what mean? "Lob's post-event fate?" I thought you hated the squiggly text introductions. "Lame-brain writer no changes subject. Lob no fool. Fate is a bad thing." No it isn't. It can be, but it doesn't have to be. "For Lob, it always seems that it is." Yes, that's true. But you can't predict fate, you just have to live it out. "Why does idiot author seem to know, but Lob no know." You'll just have to wait and see... "Lob no liking this fate business."
I thought I had to catch a flight around noon in Bangor, which was 2-1/2 hours away, so I didn't get to see any of the event on Sunday. Everyone in the house was moving pretty slowly - the weather was overcast and it felt like rain was in the offing. I promised to take the rain to Bangor with me (which would have no doubt thrilled the folks living there), but I don't know if it did any good.
I thanked Keith and Leigh for allowing me to stay at the rental house, thanked Klaus for his hospitality and the use of his camera and drove back to Bangor. I kept the part of my promise about taking rain with me - the skies opened up about midway back
Lob Having a Bath
and it rained all the rest of the way. Once I got to the airport, I discovered that good old US Airways had changed my flight from Noonish to 3pm as mentioned previously. So I had rushed for nothing. Fortunately the airport had free wi-fi, so I spent my time on the web.
When we got back home, the first order of business was to give Lob a bath. "What?! Lob no wants bath! Bad things happen to Lob in bath!" Bad things happen to Lob everywhere. "They get worse things in bath. Lob no takes bath! Lob is just OK covered in doggie and child spit!" Right. So the first order of business was to tie Lob up and the second order of business was to give Lob a bath. "Noo!" You'll feel a lot better after a bath. "Lob doubts that! Him doubts it very, very much!" You big baby.
Before moving on to the handful of images I have left over which did not make it into the main Journal, I must bow deeply and gratefully to the photographers who allowed me to use their photos. Without them, it wouldn't be a web page.

This brings us to the last of the images. There are always some I wanted to use in the Journal, but they don't quite fit, I didn't find them in time or the page was running too long already to include more. So they get stuck here at the end of the Epilogue.
First off I thought I'd begin with some nice photos of people. It is truly the people who make these Journals, after all.
I originally wanted to come to this event because

I was sitting around at Lily's condo at the Fort Taylor Pirate Invasion the day after the event was over. Several of the crew members of the Pirate of the Dark Rose were staying there because their flight didn't leave until Tuesday. This included Don Dunbar, Fenris Chase and Miss Felicity. We all got to chatting about the Eastport event and I was intrigued.
From that discussion and the wonderful dinner we had afterwards, I decided I wanted to see what sort of event these folks were so involved with. Plus I'd always wanted to see Maine. They are wonderful folks and I had a great time. I've often said it's the people that make this hobby so good and that still stands.

There are two types of photos that seem to be popular in the Journals. (Well, two types other than photos of you, the reader, which are always the most popular to you for some reason. Unless I find a really bad one.) The two types of photos are of kids and of animals. So let's do both. First, let's look at three shots of kids. (There is a secondary theme in this bunch of photos - girls in red clothes. Who knew red was such a popular color amongst pirate women?)

Next, we have an assortment of animal shots. Well, the parrot may not technically count, but there you are.

Speaking of Lob, there were a lot of pictures of him that didn't get used. Here are a few. (Keith informed me that the guy in the last photo is a pirate from some video game that's due to be released soon. I don't recall the name of the game, but the costume looked pretty neat.) [Editrix's note: I think that pirate video game character is from Assassin's Creed. There were several of them at D*Con [Dragoncon].]

Continuing on with pop-culture references, there were a some shots that didn't quite make the cut. The first two come from the commentary in the Journal. I would tell you exactly which part of the Journal they come from, but that wouldn't allow you go back through and re-read everything to make sure you get the joke. (Actually, making you go back through and re-read everything would actually be the joke.)
Then there was the giant fisherman statue in the middle of downtown Eastport. He had to be 10-20 foot tall. Someone said I should get a pic of Lob on him, but he was mounted on a pedestal that was at least 6 foot tall. I wasn't about to go climbing on giant local monuments just for a Lob picture. (He's not worth it. "Hey!" Honestly, you're not.) Although I must say that the Eastport fisherman's pose kind of reminded me of the "Harley's Holiday" episode of Batman the Animated Series where Robin uses a pair of fish as nunchucks to take out the bad guys.

Of course I always like to end these things with a joke, so decided to include a bunch of photos I found of the Viceroy. He had traveled all the way up to Maine from the Florida Keys because he is a member of the Pirates of the Dark Rose and this is their big event. Then he had to play the villain. Laurence was a very good sport about it.
